Christmas Eve is upon us. While it’s still the busiest day of the year for most retailers, it’s nothing like it used to be, at least not in a drug store. Back in the day we’d have people lined up at the photo counter, buying cameras, watches, wallets, shavers and other last-minute gifts in addition to stocking up on batteries and film. Yes, film–the thing people used to take photos with. We’d also sell a lot of liquor (for gifts and consumption) and scotch tape for wrapping those last-minute gifts.
Now Christmas Eve is mainly people lining up at the checkout counter, buying gift cards, gift cards, and more gift cards. (Oh, and also gift card holders for the gift cards.) Instead of stocking up on batteries and film, they’re stocking up on phone chargers and memory cards. We still do sell a lot of liquor though, and still sell scotch tape for sealing up the gift card holders so the gift cards don’t fall out. Some things never change…
Merry Christmas Eve!
