As if you needed any more reasons to not eat fast food, here’s some secrets shared by former fast-food workers that will make you think twice about ordering there. Nothing on here really surprises me too much–the chicken at Boston Market is great but have never tried anything else, and Wendy’s fries don’t even taste good when they’re fresh. And if you go to Buffalo Wild Wings and eat anything else besides Buffalo Wild Wings, isn’t that defeating the purpose of going there?
Subway’s Oven Roasted Chicken
One former Subway employee shared with Reddit how their “oven roasted” chicken is really made:
“at our subway, The “oven roasted” chicken was actually boiled in a microwave.”
Yummy.
Starbucks’ Frozen Food
Apparently some people don’t realize that Starbucks isn’t a quaint coffee house/bakery. Pretty much all of their food come frozen off of a truck, one former worker describes:
“All Starbucks food is reheated frozen food. Ridiculous how little people realize that. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste good, it’s just not fresh at all and incredibly overpriced.”
Chipotle’s Tacos
While Chipotle’s tacos aren’t disgusting, they’re kind of a rip off. Check out what one former employee had to say:
“I used to work at chipotle, and never ever ever order the Tacos. You get less than half the regular portions. Instead, order a bowl with whatever you want in it, then ask for the taco shells, hard or soft, on the side.
When i was there, the shells were free to get on the side. Im sure they still are but im not 100% sure.”
McDonald’s Meats
When ordering fast food, one must remember the human nature of people who work at said fast food restaurants:
“When i worked there in Canada, McDonald’s grilled chicken could sit there for a long time. So can the filet o fish. Usually they’re on top of it but shit happens, don’t be afraid to order those fresh if you worry it might be stale. Same with regular Burger patties, they take like 40 seconds its no big deal. I’ve done a 4 hour shift and just forgot to throw out the old grilled chicken and make new ones because nobody ordered it, and it had already went past the timer when I got on so there was no beeping to remind me. It sounds stupid and it was. We’re all human and humans are dumb, though.”
Anything Other Than Wings at BWW
It’s not always a good time at Buffalo Wild Wings when you order anything other than their wild wings. One former employee warns:
“I work at a Buffalo Wild Wings. Don’t get anything other than the wings. That’s the only quality thing there. Everything else is frozen s*** [sic].”
Jimmy John’s Gourmet Veggie Club
Don’t let the sound of “Gourmet Veggie” fool you, that JJ’s sub isn’t even remotely good for you:
“If you’re trying to order a healthy option, don’t order the Gourmet Veggie Club. It’s the second most caloric sandwich behind something called the “Gargantuan”. 8 slices of provolone cheese will do that.”
Carl’s Jr.’s Chicken Tenders
Hope you weren’t expecting “fresh” from a fast food restaurant, because one Carl’s Jr. employe explains what “fresh” meant while he worked there:
“Worked at Carls Jr (or Hardee’s for you east coast peeps). Chicken Tenders. We were supposed to throw them out after 20 minutes. We were told not to do that. We would sometimes serve 1-2 hour old tenders. Now when they are fresh they are fucking great as we would hand bread them. You can always ask to make them fresh but expect to wait 5-10 minutes.”
Anything Other Than Chicken on the Bone at Boston Market
One former Boston Market employe recalled:
“I used to work at Boston Market. They’re pretty good. The only thing I can think of is that any chicken that isn’t on the bone (sandwich, pot pie, etc) is day old, or more, leftover chicken.”
However, I tend to agree with this other Reddit users point of view:
“Boston Market can do whatever they f*** [sic] they want IMO, because that food is straight up delicious.”
Tim Horton’s Food
Much like Starbucks, the Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons freezes pretty much everything according to one former employe:
“Worked at Tim Hortons… The food quality is pretty bad. Everything you eat as been prebaked and prepared somewhere (probably a food processing plant) and shipped frozen to every Tims. We put the stuff in the oven to unfreeze it.
All the eggs and meat for the morning sandwiches are already baked when they arrive in our freezer.”
Wendy’s French Fries
How hard can it be to get French fries right, WENDY’S??
“My brother’s girlfriend used to work at Wendy’s and a saying there was (about fries) “They aren’t old until they’re sold.”
