Staples Pushes the Easy Button and Gobbles up Office Depot

After Office Depot merged with Office Max, you figured this was coming.  Staples is buying Office Depot for $6.3 billion and will become the sole mass marketer for stationery/office supplies.  Much like Best Buy for electronics, they’ll be the only game in town for a while but with a declining market and increased competition from Amazon, Walmart, etc.  I can’t see them staying viable for long.    The deal will still need approval from regulators but will likely go through.  So grab your Office Depot and Office Max private label items, because they will soon be collectors items only.  Another (two) bites the dust.

  1. I haven’t been in a Staples in years. Everything is electronic now, do that many ppl really still use ink cartridges?
