Guys and girls, tonight at 5 pm is the officially last time that you can break up with your significant other. Anything later than that is considered a break in protocol.
The one consistent thing at every Valentines in retail is Conversation Hearts. Year after year after year, it is the #1 requested item. Necco, the main manufacturer, is considered the oldest continuously operating candy company in the United States, and produces a whopping 100,000 pounds a DAY of Conversation hearts from mid-February through January of the following year in preparation for V-Day. That’s a lot of BFF, I LOVE YOU, and BE MINE.
The other consistent thing at every Valentines is that we will in fact RUN OUT of Conversation Hearts before the 14th, and there will be at least 50-100 customers asking for them after we run out. People, SHOP EARLY. We probably won’t have your Snickers on October 31st at 5 pm either. The same people who complain we’re out are the same ones who say “Valentines already?” when we start setting it after New Years.
Oh and what does NECCO stand for? Come on, you should know that one. If not, the answer is here.
