Rinsing your hair with lemon juice after shampooing was one of those beauty tips advice columnists used to hand out\u2014it helped to rinse all the detergent-y buildup out of your hair and make it shiny. Of course, mixing the lemon juice right in with the detergent sounds like it defeats the purpose\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>2. BODY ON TAP<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bNSCPod_Khk\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><strong>Beer was another home remedy to make your tresses shiny (reflective hair was big in the 1970s), and Body on Tap shampoo contained a whole cup o\u2019suds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>3. DRY LOOK<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Q0hFpO19ecA\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><strong>Men were beginning to ditch their Brylcreem and discover the wonders of the blow dryer in the early 1970s. But how to hold those flyaway hairs in place in a manly fashion? The Dry Look, a hairspray designed especially for males, to the rescue!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>4. TICKLE DEODORANT<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V7Zlh7tyhMA\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><strong>The, er, unusual shape of the Tickle bottle invited all sorts of rude comments about what was<em>really <\/em>making those women in the TV commercials giggle uncontrollably.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>5. LOVE\u2019S BABY SOFT<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l7IP5SV6GqQ\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><strong>Was Love\u2019s Baby Soft fragrance line deliberately sexualizing children in their ads\u2026? To add to the \u201cick\u201d factor of the ad campaign, the stuff actually smelled like baby powder!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>6. SHORT \u2018N SASSY<\/h4>\n<div id=\"file-157197--21\" class=\"file file-image file-image-jpeg\">\n<div class=\"content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/images.mentalfloss.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/insert_main_wide_image\/public\/short__sassy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"640\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Short hair probably didn\u2019t require a different formulation of shampoo in order to maintain its shape and bounce. In fact, anyone who took the time to read the \u201cingredients\u201d panel would probably discover that Short &amp; Sassy was made up of the same stuff as every other shampoo on the shelf. Really picky consumers could even argue that gold medal skater Dorothy Hamill sported her trademark wedge haircut long <em>before<\/em> this shampoo hit the shelves.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>7. GEE YOUR HAIR SMELLS TERRIFIC<\/h4>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/63524250?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;color=808080\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>This floral-fragranced shampoo is one of the brands most often mentioned on Internet message boards frequented by women who grew up in the 1970s and early &#8217;80s. Perhaps Madison Avenue advertising types should take note\u2014products whose names are rejoinders make an impression with consumers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>8. EARTH BORN SHAMPOO<\/h4>\n<div id=\"file-157199--21\" class=\"file file-image file-image-jpeg\">\n<div class=\"content\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/images.mentalfloss.com\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/insert_main_wide_image\/public\/earth_born.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"446\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Between Lemon Up and Earth Born, it seems like women in the &#8217;70s wore more fruit in their hair than Carmen Miranda. I did, in fact, use the apricot version of this shampoo back when I was in the eighth grade, and while I didn\u2019t notice any appreciable difference in my hair quality, I can report that when I got caught in the rain my hair reeked of a fruity aroma.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>9. I mean, who wants to actually smell like a pair of denim pants?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>10.
