{"id":2390,"date":"2018-02-07T18:58:53","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T02:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/re-tales.net\/?p=2390"},"modified":"2018-02-07T18:58:53","modified_gmt":"2018-02-08T02:58:53","slug":"retail-jargon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/re-tales.net\/?p=2390","title":{"rendered":"Retail Jargon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/thumb9.shutterstock.com\/display_pic_with_logo\/495346\/466689086\/stock-photo-jargon-word-cloud-concept-466689086.jpg\" alt=\"Image result for jargon images\" width=\"259\" height=\"184\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Having been around retail for a while, I&#8217;m amused at the &#8220;jargon&#8221; that has evolved over the years and much of it is the same no matter which company you work for.\u00a0 \u00a0A lot of it might have to do with being politically correct, but it&#8217;s amazing how differently they now say something so simple.\u00a0 Such as&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;ll bubble that up&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211;we used to say &#8220;I&#8217;ll tell my boss&#8221; but now we &#8220;bubble&#8221; things.\u00a0 No clue how this one got started, but maybe it has to do with the &#8220;bubbles&#8221; that are phones when you text someone?<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Have a huddle with your employees&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211;what happened to &#8220;have a meeting?&#8221; I guess it&#8217;s because most stores don&#8217;t have ENOUGH employees to have what would be called a meeting.\u00a0 So now you just huddle with them.\u00a0 But isn&#8217;t a huddle 11 players in football?\u00a0 No one has 11 employees to huddle with.\u00a0 Maybe it should just be a chit-chat instead of a huddle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Align your team&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211;apparently this translates to &#8220;tell everyone the rules we&#8217;ve made and make sure they&#8217;re doing them.&#8221;\u00a0 It sounds more like you&#8217;re working with a bunch of acrobats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Give them a coach and counseling&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211;now this one is definitely politically correct, we used to just WRITE THEM UP, usually it was called a WRITTEN WARNING.\u00a0 \u00a0 I seriously doubt that anyone who gets called into the office and asked to sign a form because they&#8217;ve been tardy too often feels like they&#8217;re getting &#8220;coached&#8221; or &#8220;counselled.&#8221;\u00a0 And of course you won&#8217;t get fired, you&#8217;ll get terminated.\u00a0 Terminated sounds so much nicer. Unless your boss is Arnold Schwarzenegger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I&#8217;ll reach out to Mary about this&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211;no, you&#8217;re actually going to talk to Mary, text Mary or email Mary.\u00a0 But i don&#8217;t think you&#8217;re going to reach out to her.\u00a0 That would probably be sexual harassment, depending on where you reached.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Zone the Store&#8221;<\/strong>&#8211;actually, this one has MANY variations.\u00a0 We used to just say &#8220;straighten the store&#8221; or maybe &#8220;face the store&#8221; since you were facing all the product to the front of the shelf.\u00a0 But if you work for Walmart, you Zone the Store.\u00a0 \u00a0If you work for Staples, you Block the Store.\u00a0 In other stores, you Condition the Store.
