Over the last few days I’ve visited several retailers (Lowes, Vons and some others) and in almost every case, I noticed something missing at the end of my visit.<\/p>\n

All the retailers I’ve ever worked for have stressed 3 things, often using acronyms such as GST (Greet, Serve and Thank.) \u00a0Broken down, it’s greet the customer (“Hi, Welcome to Walmart!), serve the customer (“Can I help you find anything?”) and thank the customer (“Thanks for shopping here.”)<\/p>\n

In every case this weekend, \u00a0I was not thanked by the cashier. \u00a0 I did hear “Here’s your receipt.” \u00a0“Here you go” and even “Did you want a bag?” \u00a0 Since my mom raised me with common courtesy and I’ve been trained by a lifetime in retail, I found myself saying “Thank you” when handed my receipt or my purchase. \u00a0 Wait, what? \u00a0 WHY AM I THANKING THEM?? \u00a0Because they gave me a receipt? Because I was lucky they sold me something? \u00a0I’m pretty sure it should be the other way around.<\/p>\n

Be warned, poorly trained cashiers–the next time you forget to thank me, I’m going to come out with “You’re Welcome!” and hopefully make you feel bad for not doing your job right. \u00a0Reader, thank YOU for letting me rant. \u00a0 That is all.<\/p>\n
