I need it!!&#8221; is usually going to get my standard answer of &#8220;Probably because it didn&#8217;t sell very well in our 7,500 stores, but that&#8217;s a corporate decision, not mine, sorry.&#8221; \u00a0 #5 and #7 are pretty high on my list as well&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>I\u2019ve heard it said that everyone should work retail at some point in life, just to understand what it\u2019s like. As someone who\u2019s never held a retail job, I figured the next best step towards being a better customer would be to talk to people who have. I quizzed current and former retail workers on their customer pet peeves.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/img.grouponcdn.com\/coupons\/6WYqvrv7nkHnhMBfAcnZ\/Ra-1200x628.png\" alt=\"Top ten things shoppers do that drive retail employees crazy.\" width=\"1200\" height=\"628\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Some common complaints\u2014and a few crazy stories\u2014emerged. Be a good customer and make sure you\u2019re avoiding these 10 shopping sins.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>10. Wrecking the dressing room.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThe dressing room is not your personal garbage can\u2026 the amount of people who thought they could just dump whatever they wanted (drinks, trash, receipts, etc.) in a dressing room was shocking.\u201d \u2013 Kitt V.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI hated when I\u2019d work the fitting rooms and someone would leave clothes on the floor (instead of bringing them to me, putting back on the hanger, or lying neatly on the fitting room seat)\u2026 What made that worse is if someone tried on pants and left them on the floor with the pant legs inside out. So basically, this person peeled off their pants and dropped them on the floor of a business as if it was their own home.\u201d \u2013 Anne P.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>9. Destroying displays.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cCustomers who dig through (and unfold) entire folded piles of sweaters\/jeans to find their size\u2014somebody has to refold it all! Better to ask a sales associate; they have a better idea of how the piles are organized, and may even be able to find your size in the back storeroom.\u201d \u2013 Carolyn A.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt never failed, you\u2019d get the display table set perfectly and you\u2019d leave it for maybe 5 minutes. When you circle back, it would inevitably look like someone had decided to throw all of the shirts up into the air and let them land where they may.\u201d \u2013 Taylor P.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe worst actually was when I worked at Nine West in high school. Attempting humor.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cSaying you don\u2019t need a bag because \u2018I\u2019ve got one at home! Abandoning your purchase.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cIf you decide you don\u2019t want that milk any more, please take it back where you grabbed it rather than letting it spoil in the checkout lane magazine rack.\u201d \u2013 Justin P.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>5. Ignoring closing time.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cA quick trip to pick up one or two items before closing is okay. Staying an hour after closing to get a month\u2019s worth of groceries is not.\u201d \u2013 Andrew B.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>4. Trying to pull a fast one.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cPeople returning things they never bought. It\u2019s a form of theft and it\u2019s hard to track if not caught early in a transaction.\u201d \u2013 Margaret N.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cReturning a bag full of clothing that has been worn, washed, has no receipt, has no tags, is out of season, or all of the above.\u201d \u2013 Natalie L.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cPeople who try to put items on sale racks purposefully so you have to sell it to them at a reduced rate, or people who yell enough so you have to give them a discount on an coupon-excluded item.\u201d \u2013 Teresa E.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDo not be surprised if I ask for a form of identification [to buy liquor]. Do not be upset if I won\u2019t accept a Sam\u2019s card, FOID card, college ID, or anything else the DMV won\u2019t accept.\u201d \u2013Emily R.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>3. Stealing things outright.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThe best was opening a box of what was supposed to be leather boots to find a pair of stank-ass gym shoes. Being rude.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cOnce, as I was the only person on the floor applying [makeup] look after look to this woman and her adult daughter, the daughter looked at her mom and said, \u201cNone of the good people are here anymore.\u201d No whispering. Holding employees responsible for things they can\u2019t control.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing how people forget that you are a person and how it\u2019s not really your fault that they\u2019re late, that there\u2019s only X number of lanes open at the registers, or that we were out of ACME toothpaste.\u201d \u2013 Justin P.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cCashiers do not set the prices.
