\u00a0 \u00a0 One of the things I always believed in as a manager was to have compassion for your employees and give them the benefit of the doubt on sick calls and personal problems, as long as they don’t become excessive.<\/p>\n

This lady’s employer, however, apparently did not share my beliefs. \u00a0I am not only astonished as what the boss did and how she did it, but even more shocked that the company only offered to pay her until she found a new job, instead of offering her job back and FIRING THE STUPID MANAGER WHO FIRED HER VIA TEXT MESSAGE. \u00a0 \u00a0I don’t expect that I’d ever buy clothes at Urban Planet anyway, but man, they have some stupid people working there. \u00a0And I’d be surprised if she hasn’t already gotten 20 calls from lawyers wanting to sue for wrongful termination.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Oh and she probably didn’t have an EpiPen because they’ve become ludicrously expensive while the company’s CEO has gotten rich<\/a>, but \u00a0she could have gotten a generic one at CVS at 1\/3 of the price that Mylan has offered them for.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Imagine being at work and suddenly having a violent, deadly allergic reaction, and in the middle of this terrifying experience, you get fired.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

You\u00a0would probably think the firing was\u00a0over tardiness or not doing her job,\u00a0but it was because she\u00a0came into contact with bell peppers, something she\u2019s\u00a0severely allergic to.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When she began to experience serious symptoms of anaphylaxis and asked for help as her throat was closing up, her manager didn’t seem to show any concern.<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Thankfully\u00a0Duperreault\u2019s coworker saw what was going on\u00a0and immediately took her to a medical clinic, where she got a shot of epinephrine.<\/em><\/p>\n

She was then taken by ambulance to a hospital.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Duperreault said<\/a>\u00a0that she has several life-threatening allergies and usually has an EpiPen with her, but on this day she didn\u2019t.<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe doctors said if I would have waited another ten minutes I would be dead,\u201d Duperreault wrote in a\u00a0Facebook post<\/a> that has since been shared more than 17,000 times.<\/em><\/p>\n

But it\u2019s what happened while in the ambulance that will really get your blood boiling even more.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Showing absolutely no compassion or decency, her manager sent her this text, letting her know that she had been fired.<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On top of that, her coworker who helped her\u00a0was fired via text message as well, because apparently it\u2019s more important to help people save 10 percent on jeans than it is to save a coworker\u2019s life.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Deperreault ended her Facebook<\/a> post with a plea to raise awareness about allergic reactions in the workplace so that others don’t have to endure a similar experience.<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As for Urban Planet, the parent company \u2014 Y.M., Inc. \u2014 stepped up, with the CEO apologizing to her and saying, \u201cWe have thoroughly investigated this. Simply put, the actions were unacceptable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

They will also be paying Deperreault until she finds a new job, which is nice, but really the least they could do considering what could have happened.<\/em><\/p>\n
