Were you offered help? \u00a0and so on.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0can envision so many problems with this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Customer orders something online and pays for it but due to shrink\/bad inventory accounting etc. the item is not in stock when the employee goes to find it. \u00a0Can they take it off the order or what?<\/li>\n<li>Order gets mispicked by the same employees who can&#8217;t stock items in the correct spot on the shelf in the first place. \u00a0 After all, Planters Unsalted Peanuts are right next to and look almost exactly like the salted version. \u00a0Customer gets home, finds the wrong item and then are steamed they have to go back, much like getting the wrong item at the drive-thru in McDonalds.<\/li>\n<li>One employee calls out sick so there&#8217;s only one employee left in the store, and that person is unable to fill an order and\/or go outside to the curb to deliver it. \u00a0Customer gets tired of waiting outside so just drives through the front door.<\/li>\n<li>Customer gets to the curb and remembers &#8220;Oh, I forgot the condoms, can you run back in and get me some?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On the plus side:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Shoplifting will be reduced with less customers coming in, although not really because the shoplifters are going to come in regardless and now there will be employees outside of the building freeing them up to steal more.<\/li>\n<li>Less customers bringing non-service dogs and screaming children in the store. \u00a0Keep the rugrats in the car! \u00a0YAY!<\/li>\n<li>Less customers asking &#8220;Where is your toothpaste?&#8221; while they&#8217;re standing in the toothpaste aisle.<\/li>\n<li>Opportunity for upsells at the car &#8220;Would you like your windshield cleaned for another $1.99?&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"asset-double-wide double-wide p402_premium\">\n<div id=\"module-position-PAYWH3q91ys\" class=\"story-asset video-asset\">\n<div class=\"ui-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ui-pluto-video js-ui-video-init story-video inline-story-video priority smallarticleattophtml5\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ui-video-controls story-video inline-story-video priority\">\n<p class=\"video-desc\"><em>CVS Health is introducing a curbside pickup service accessible through its mobile app allowing customers to order most items using a mobile app and get their order delivered to their vehicle when they drive up to the store.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"module-position-PAYWH3qmL2Y\" class=\"story-asset story-metadata-asset\">\n<div class=\"article-metadata-wrap\">\n<section id=\"module-position-PAYWH3rkjBA\" class=\"storymetadata-bucket expandable-photo-module story-expandable-photo-module\">\n<aside class=\"single-photo expandable-collapsed\">\n<p class=\"image-credit-wrap\"><em>You may never need to walk into a CVS\u00a0store again\u00a0\u2014 and that&#8217;s just fine with the drugstore chain.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>The retailer planned to announce Tuesday that it will allow customers to order most\u00a0items\u00a0using a\u00a0mobile app and get their order delivered to their vehicle when they drive up to the store. The idea adds a twist to drive-through businesses \u2014 whether it has been banks, dry cleaners and, of course, myriad fast-food chains.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The service, dubbed CVS Express, was built on a\u00a0mobile platform in partnership with\u00a0Palo Alto, Calif.-based\u00a0start-up Curbside, founded by the same entrepreneurs behind Apple&#8217;s Find Your iPhone app. CVS invested an undisclosed amount in Curbside.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The curbside pickup service, integrated into the main CVS smartphone app, will come without any price markups, and CVS is promising to get orders ready within &#8220;about an hour.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CVS Express represents a new offering in the battle for customers in a get-in-now culture with same-day-delivery services on the rise. Urban locations without easy vehicle access\u00a0are unlikely to get the service.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There are a few caveats. Prescription drugs must still be sold in-store or through a separate drive-through\u00a0window.\u00a0And only about 75% of the average CVS store&#8217;s retail products will be available for order through the service.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>CVS Pharmacy President Helena Foulkes said that in test markets repeat business was high.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We think this is an answer for people who are looking for convenience and know and trust us,&#8221; Foulkes said in an interview.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The trend fits comfortably within the buy-online-pick-up-in-store trend that is now available at many major big-box retailers\u00a0\u2014 except at CVS you won&#8217;t have to get out of your car.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sam Cinquegrani, CEO of marketer\u00a0ObjectWave, whose firm developed a similar curbside pickup service for Mexican pharmacy chain Farmacia San Pablo, said retail customers are demanding highly personalized\u00a0experiences.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It&#8217;s\u00a0a smart move on the part of the retailer, and I believe what that retailer will see,\u00a0if it\u2019s done correctly, is a customer that\u2019s loyal to the brand,&#8221;\u00a0Cinquegrani said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Still, there are a few hurdles for CVS, the nation&#8217;s largest drugstore chain.
