Fortune has once again released their list of the top 100 companies\u00a0to work for, \u00a0and once again there are not many retailers on the list. \u00a0 I counted only 10 of them with only Wegman’s in the top 10, among others I’ve talked about Publix<\/a>\u00a0before, R.E.I. has great perks,\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0IKEA has some fun stuff behind the scenes,\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0and Nordstrom’s has great customer service.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0 Notably lacking are any of the drug chains and the two retail giants (Walmart and Target.) \u00a0 \u00a0Google wins for the 7th year in a row, which to me is pretty remarkable, but evidently not everyone is happy working there.\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0I’ve also always wondered where Fortune ranks on this list?<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re looking to start a career or make the transition to a new company, there are a lot of factors to consider. Once you\u2019ve decided on the best location<\/a>, things like salary and benefits, job satisfaction, and how well employees get along with one another come into play. For its annual list of The 100 Best Companies to Work For, Fortune<\/a> partnered with Great Place to Work<\/a> to conduct what it calls \u201cthe most extensive employee survey in corporate America.”<\/em><\/p>\n

And the winner is? Google\u2014for the seventh year in a row.<\/em><\/p>\n

In explaining its methodology, Fortune said that two-thirds of the overall company scores were taken from the Trust Index Employee Survey<\/a>, which surveys a sample from each company to determine how employees feel about their peers and management. The final third came from Great Place to Work\u2019s Culture Audit, which focuses on things like compensation, hiring practices, and diversity efforts.<\/em><\/p>\n

The financial sector is well represented in the top 100, as are loan and insurance companies\u2014with the exception of Google, large tech companies are notably absent. Other familiar names on the list include Wegmans Food Markets (No. 4), The Container Store (No. 14), Build-A-Bear Workshop (No. 45), and The Cheesecake Factory (No. 98).
